History of Suba National High School

Suba is a barangay which is only five kilometers away from Majayjay, town proper. Before SUBA was picture of an ordinary barangay. The roads were not constructed and no electric lights were seen in the streets. Youth who wanted to go high school had to travel to Magdalena, Laguna and enrolled at a private school. Those with not enough money to support their students just stayed at home and made “banig’ to earn money. Sensitive to this situation, Mr. Getulio Divinagracia, barangay  captain during that time, though of the way and means to combat literacy. He said that no action will progress if citizen remains ignorant. The whole barangay supported Mr. Divinagracia’s idea. He worked hard to established a high school site. Later this institution was named “SUBA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL, “ which started with thirty (30) students, three (3) teachers and two (2) classrooms barrowed from SUBA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
In 1974, SUBA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL had its first graduate. Thirty students received their secondary diploma. In 1990, the name SUBA BARANGAY HIGH SCHOOL was changed to SUBA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL.
Now SUBA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL found its new site at the banks of Atilo River near the boundaries of San Isidro and Suba. A 1881 sq.meter lot partly donated by Dr. Brosas and family and partly purchased by the PTCA and ALUMNI Association is now a home for 333 students and 16 teachers including the PSB. Two mentors are currently detailed at Gagalot/Taytay SUBA NHS Extension 1 for 144 students there.
